Our history

Strong in steel since 1958

Kröger Staal was founded in 1958, which marked the beginning of our organisation today: one of the largest stockists of quarto steel plate in Europe. In 1960, the company expanded with BV Snijwerk and two years later, Rotterdam-based Albert Bruinsma started as a commercial employee. He became managing director within a few years and took over the company in 1975. Under his leadership, the group grew into Europe Steel Center (1990) and we moved to Moerdijk, adding the Projects division in 2013. So we have been a reputable player on the international steel market for over 65 years, still independent and ready for the future.

Independent for more than 65 years

In a market scarred by takeovers, Europe Steel Center remained one of the few steel companies to remain completely independent and still is today. With the great advantage that we always act quickly, are involved with our customers and buy from the best steel suppliers, at the best conditions. Following in Albert Bruinsma’s footsteps, we keep our quality high by continuing to invest and innovate. From the latest cutting techniques to a large stock of quality steel and from logistic support to project expertise. This is how we live up to our philosophy as an indispensable extension in our customers’ supply chain.

“We do both trading and cutting. After all, a centipede is less likely to fall over than a stork.”

Albert Bruinsma
